Year Up founder and CEO Gerald Chertavian ’87, P’20 told CNBC he is hopeful that a new partnership with United Airlines will help close the “opportunity divide” that exists for millions of young adults seeking better employment.

Chertavian, who is also a former Bowdoin trustee, started the nonprofit in 2000 with the aim of helping motivated students and young adults from low-income backgrounds gain the skills they need to climb up the employment ladder. Year Up now serves more than 4,000 people in twenty-one cities across the US.

Chertavian recently appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box, along with United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz, to discuss the new partnership.
