Charles Dorn, professor of education and associate dean for academic affairs, has been sharing insight gleaned during the research and writing of his new book, For the Common Good: A New History of Higher Education in America (Cornell University Press, 2017).

Dorn was interviewed in the Shannon Room, Hubbard Hall, for the WCSH newsmagazine program 207. Dorn talks about the common good, the arms race amid institutions of higher education, and their underlying mission. Watch the segment.

Dorn also spoke of the role of higher education on the Maine Public Radio show Maine Calling. Listen to the segment.

His essay “What is College Good For? (Hint: More Than Just a Job)” ran in The Chronicle of Higher Education last month.
