Hari Kondabolu ’04: Documentary, Tour, and Stop in Portland, Maine Archives

Comedian Hari Kondabalu ’04 is performing at Aura in Portland, Maine, on August 30th, as part of a national tour (plus some stops in Canada).

Also, Kondabalu’s new documentary film, The Problem With Apu, premieres this fall on truTV.  While Kondabalu loves The Simpsons he has a problem with Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, the stereotypical Indian-American character on the hit TV show. Kondabalu, who is of Indian descent, analyzes the character in his new documentary film,

The character of Apu, which is voiced by actor Hank Azaria, is described by the network as Kondabolu’s “longstanding nemesis.” Among the documentary’s interview subjects is comedienne Whoopi Goldberg who said Apu’s character has all the characteristics of a minstrel.
