Forest Ecology Class Visits Brunswick Tree Farm

In what has become an biennial tradition, professor Vladimir Douhovnikoff recently took his Bowdoin students to Higmos, Inc., a logging and lumber business in Brunswick, to bring to life his lectures on forest management.

In the 200-level Forest Ecology and Conservation class, Douhovnikoff, an assistant professor of biology, exposes students to the ecological dynamics of forest ecosystems and the tools that can be applied to forest conservation.

A family-owned operation since 1955, Higmos cuts tree from home lots and commercial properties, and manufactures lumber on site with an early 1900s circular sawmill and edger.
