Show Encompasses Career of Artist Dorothy Schwartz H’04 (Portland Press Herald) Archives

An upcoming exhibition at the Maine Jewish Museum in Portland will display 40 or so prints by Dorothy Schwartz, spanning five decades of the 74-year-old artist’s career. The show, “Dorothy Schwartz: Evolution of a Printmaker,” opens today.

“The exhibition tells the arc of a story about a determined artist, from her early days as a student at Smith College to her retirement years in South Freeport,” Press Herald reporter Bob Keyes writes. In between, Schwartz was director of the Maine Humanities Council, from 1984 to 2006.

Schwartz received an honorary degree from Bowdoin in 2004. She is married to classical music composer Elliott Schwartz, Bowdoin’s Robert K. Beckwith Professor of Music Emeritus.
