Squirrel Population Booming After Warm Winter (Associated Press) Archives

Last year’s mild winter and a bumper crop of acorns and beechnuts have been good for squirrels. Their numbers have boomed in parts of the country, making it hard for some fruit growers but good for pest-control experts, the Associated Press reports.

Biologists have observed squirrel population eruptions in some places and not others: New York’s Hudson Valley, New Mexico, Indiana, Vermont and Ohio all have more of the animals, but not western New York or Pennsylvania.
