In his latest Project Syndicate opinion piece, career diplomat Christopher Hill ’74 writes of the importance of foreign policy and ponders the likelihood that such issues will be taken up in the three presidential debates scheduled in the coming month.

A key negotiator of the Dayton Accords, which ended the war in Bosnia, and a special envoy to Kosovo in the late 1990s, Hill then led the U.S. delegation to the six-party talks on North Korea’s nuclear program and was U.S. Ambassador to Iraq from 2009 to 2010. He has also served as U.S. Ambassador to Macedonia, Poland and South Korea, and as U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Asian and Pacific Affairs.
