The Maine Golf Association (MGA) honored retired Bath, Maine, dentist Dr. Leo Buck ’38 for his many years of service to Maine golf and to the sport nationwide. Dr. Buck, who turned 96 in March, has volunteered as a rules official for the MGA for 75 years, since the 1930s. He was head rules official in the state for 25 years, and served in numerous capacities for the New England Golf Association and nationally for the United States Golf Association. Starting this year, the MSGA will name its Player of the Year Award the Dr. Leonardo Buck Maine Player of the Year Award.

Dr. Buck was a player to be reckoned with in his day as well-champion of the 1950 Maine Amateur, and winner of 12 club championships at Bath Country Club. Buck was a five-sport letter winner at Morse High, and he played baseball, golf, and hockey at Bowdoin. He’s a member of the Maine Golf Hall of Fame, the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame, and the Maine Sports Hall of Fame.
