Brunswick-Bowdoin Community Read Planned

The College and the greater Brunswick community are embarking on what’s being called a “community read” on the topic of class and economic differences.

In a letter to the Bowdoin community, President Barry Mills announced the initiative by the Town of Brunswick, Curtis Memorial Library and the College to organize a community-wide reading of Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America by Barbara Ehrenreich.

When classes resume in January, discussion groups will be organized to bring together readers from the larger community to share views on the issues raised in the book and to encourage continued dialogue on class and economic differences.

Read President Mills’ letter, which includes information about obtaining a copy of the book.
