Today for Halloween on “The Writer’s Almanac,” Garrison Keillor read the poem “Haunted Houses” by Bowdoin’s illustrious bard Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Class of 1825. On this spooky “Almanac” edition, Keillor also recommends the short story Young Goodman Brown by Longfellow’s Bowdoin classmate Nathaniel Hawthorne, who Keillor writes, “was always interested in sin and redemption, good and evil, truth and hypocrisy.”
