Record-Breaking Hopper Exhibition Touted Coast to Coast Archives

The Bowdoin College Museum of Art exhibition Edward Hopper’s Maine has been shattering attendance records, as noted in an Associated Press story picked up by media outlets across the country.

Pitching Hopper as a peg for a fall getaway in Maine, the article recommends the Museum as a destination in and of itself, and also urges readers not to miss the College’s statue of Joshua Chamberlain (or the offerings in town at Gelato Fiasco).

The Washington Post picked up the story, as did the Houston Chronicle, Yahoo News and MSNBC, among others.

I want to thank Kevin Salatino, Diana Tuitte and Victoria Wilson for spending so much time talking with two docents from the Farnsworth Museum about the Edward Hopper exhibit. One cannot get enough of Hopper, whose paintings are such wonderful tools for instruction at almost any level. I also thank them ahead of time for welcoming the docents from the Farnsworth Museum at a date to be decided. This exhibit, given so freely, is such a gift to humanity.

I have visited the Hopper exhibit twice and plan at least one more time. We are so fortunate to have such a high caliber exhibit right here in Maine and accessible to all. (free of charge) It is incredibly well curated. I loved the fact that studies and unfinished pieces were included so that the viewer can see how Hopper developed his work. The unexpected extra bonus of the gallery that contains Hopper and his contemporaries was the frosting on the cake! Makes me wish I were an art student at Bowdoin….what a learning opportunity! Thanks to all who made this exhibit possible!
