Shoe designer and entrepreneur Ruthie Davis ’84 will deliver the commencement address at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Conn., on Friday, June 3. Ruthie, a native of New Britian, Conn., is a 1980 graduate of Loomis Chaffee.
“Loomis Chaffee is an institution with boundless intellectual and creative energy, and I am thrilled to have someone as dynamic as Ruthie Davis address our graduates on one of the most important days of their lives,” says Head of School Sheila Culbert.
Following Bowdoin, Davis earned an MBA at Babson and afterward began her career in footwear at Reebok where, over time, she became the director of the Reebok Classic division. Davis later joined the UGG brand as Vice President of Marketing and Design, and before striking out on her own, accepted the position of Vice President of Marketing and Design for Women’s Footwear at Tommy Hilfiger.
In 2006, she launched her own brand, Ruthie Davis, into the world of high heels and accessories. Her signature stiletto heels and handbags have achieved international success and a celebrity fan base that includes some of the most successful women in entertainment today. Her heels have graced the Fashion Week runways at New York and London every season since the brand’s inception. “As a business woman who has succeeded in a heavily male-dominated industry, I hope to inspire others,” says Davis.
