Gina Kolata H’08 Debates ’10 Percent Rule’ for Runners (New York Times)

Gina Kolata H'08

Gina Kolata, who donned a mortarboard in 2008 when she delivered Bowdoin’s baccalaureate keynote address before accepting her honorary diploma, indeed wears a number of hats.

In addition to New York Times science writer, Kolata is also the Times‘ resident exercise guru, writing the “Personal Best” column, in which she recently explored the “10 percent rule” – the notion that runners who up their weekly mileage by no more than 10 percent will avoid injury.
