Alumni Entrepreneurs’ Cheeky Reel Biz (Portland Press Herald)

Long-time fly-fishermen Ted Upton ’07, Scott Caras ’08, Max Key ’08, and business partner Peter Crommett, aim to infuse their sport with some youthful color. Their Boston-based startup, Cheeky Fly Fishing, launched last month with its saltwater Mojo 425, the first offering in a line of reels designed to be “functionally superior” and “aesthetically interesting.” Sales are already brisk for the stylish, high-performance reel, and President Barry Mills referenced Cheeky in his 2011 Baccalaureate address while stressing the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Our country needs entrepreneurs and innovators, and this is actually a great time for taking these risks. -Barry Mills
