Kary Antholis ’84 HBO Project ‘The Pacific’ Wins Peabody Award

The Pacific, the epic HBO miniseries about American soldiers and sailors fighting in the Pacific theater of World War II, has won a George Foster Peabody Award recognizing excellence in broadcasting.

At the presentation ceremony May 23 in New York City, Kary Antholis ’84, president of HBO Miniseries, accepted the award on behalf of The Pacific with remarks referencing U.S. Marine Corps Captain Andrew Haldane, a member of the Bowdoin Class of 1941 and captain of the Bowdoin football team, who was featured in the series.

I enjoyed Kary’s presentation at the scholarship luncheon very much, being a Marine myself. I highly recommend the book With The Old Breed, by E. B. Sledge, where the author writes of Haldane “He was the finest Marine officer I ever knew.”
