Bowdoin’s ‘Lose the Shoes’ Tourney Benefits Grassroot Soccer

The men’s and women’s soccer teams, along with the Student Global AIDS Campaign, organized Bowdoin’s second Lose the Shoes soccer tournament Saturday, May 8.

Proceeds from raffles and concession sales at the barefoot, three-on-three tourney benefit Grassroot Soccer, a non-profit organization that harnesses the power of soccer to educate youth in sub-Saharan Africa about HIV/AIDS, speaking with them about the risks, who to talk to, and how to get tested.

Lose the Shoes organizers say 33 teams turned out for an afternoon of fun on the soccer fields.

This was the second time Bowdoin has hosted a “Lose the Shoes” Tournament. Last year’s tournament was held in Farley Field house due to rain.
