Leo Steinberg H’95, Giant of Renaissance and Postwar American Art History, Dies at 90 (New York Times)

Born in Moscow, raised in Berlin, educated in London, Leo Steinberg gave “new meaning to the word cosmopolitan.” So read the honorary degree citation honoring Steinberg on the steps of the Museum at Commencement in 1995.

Steinberg, who taught at Columbia, Harvard and Penn, and who was thought to be one of the most influential voices in shaping the way art was discussed in the 20th century, died Sunday in New York at the age of 90.
