‘The Making of Slap Shot’ Reveals Bowdoin Connection (Denver Post)

Jonathon Jackson’s book The Making of Slap Shot examines the genesis of the 1977 movie of the same name starring Paul Newman. As TheĀ Denver Post reports, the character Ned Braden, the former Princeton star-turned-Charlestown Chiefs player, was inspired by Ned Dowd ’72, who played for Bowdoin before joining the North American Hockey League’s Johnstown Jets.

Ned Dowd was not Nancy’s brother. Her name was Nancy Noyes, she lived in Brunswick, her folks owned a hardware store and she MARRIED Ned Dowd, a Bowdoin hockey player!!
