Joho Strom ’09, a member of Bowdoin’s 2007 World Champion RoboCup team, the Northern Bites, has taken his magic to the University of Michigan and beyond. Strom, a Ph.D. candidate in the engineering program, was a leader of Michigan’s team in the MAGIC (Multi-Autonomous Ground-robotic International Challenge) competition just held in Australia. With Strom at the helm, Team Michigan took first place and the $750,000 prize.
The team designed a fleet of 14 unmanned four-wheeled robots charged with the task of locating and dismantling mock bombs. The competition is organized by the U.S. and Australia defense departments.
