Dorn Book to Examine a Bowdoin Education, Past and Present (Bowdoin Orient)

Bowdoin Associate Professor of Education Charles Dorn is at work on a book in which he uses the history of higher education to examine the trajectory of the commitment to the common good over time. As the Bowdoin Orient reports, the College figures prominently in the case study, “From ‘Liberal Professions’ to ‘Lucrative Professions’: Bowdoin College, Stanford University, and the Civic Functions of Higher Education,” as a model of student preoccupation with the common good in the 1800s.
