My memory of Marion Brown is this. In the summer of 1972 I was in Avignon (for reasons too long and involved to tell here)and I was surprised to learn that Marion was performing at the Avignon Jazz Festival. I only knew him as a music professor at Bowdoin, but that was enough reason for me to attend, and I thought he performed brilliantly. I’d heard nothing of him afterward, until this sad news.
