Video: Geoff Canada ’74 on Public Education in America (NBC)

Questions and debate about the condition of public education in America seem to be everywhere these days, spurred on by the new documentary film, Waiting for “Superman and the NBC News series “Education Nation.” A major participant in both is Geoffrey Canada of the Bowdoin Class of 1974. He recently joined Waiting for “Superman” director Davis Guggenheim, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten, and D.C. Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee for a discussion on the challenges facing our schools and our kids.

This is an outstanding film I saw in June at the Nantucket Film Festival. Bowdoin should feature this film screening for the Bowdoin community and the towm of Brunswick. In addition to focusing on the state of education in the USA today, it is a tribute to the extraordinary job and passion that Geoff Canada, ’74 has for public education.
