Photo: Making Room for the Inn

A familiar corner in Brunswick is beginning to look a whole lot different. Demolition began last week at the corner of Maine and Noble streets to make room for a new 54-room inn. The site-located across the street from First Parish Church and the Bowdoin campus-is the former St. Charles Church (which moved to McKeen Street in the mid-1970s), and, more recently, the home of Brunswick’s 55-Plus Center (now relocated a few blocks away on Union Street). The new Inn at Maine Street Station is scheduled to open in the spring. It’s part of Brunswick’s Maine Street Station project, developed by Massachusetts builder and Bowdoin alumnus J. Hilary Rockett Jr. ’86
