The U.S. Postal Service unveiled a new stamp Thursday that features the 1874 Winslow Homer painting Boys in a Pasture. Homer, who had a studio on Prouts Neck, painted many of his famous works in Maine, and the announcement was made at the Portland Museum of Art. The Bowdoin College Museum of Art has an extensive Homer collection.
The painting ‘Boys in a Pasture’ was painted in the field behind my house in Belmont, MA.
Homer was part of an art colony here.
His uncle’s house is now the present day Women’s Club.
Will be glad to send you a photo of the field as it is
presently from same angle as the painting.
