Audio Interview: Author Douglas Kennedy ’76 (MPBN) Archives

Leaving the World by Douglas Kennedy '76Douglas Kennedy ’76 has been described by book critics as a master storyteller with a trademark genius for writing serious popular fiction and is currently one of the bestselling novelists in Europe. His work has been translated into twenty-one languages, and, in 2006, Kennedy was awarded the French decoration of Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Even so, Time magazine has called Kennedy “The most famous American writer you never heard of.” But that’s starting to change. Kennedy was interviewed on Maine Public Radio about his new novel, Leaving the World, by Keith Shortall of the Bowdoin Class of 1982.

“Character IS destiny”! Thank you for reminding us of this Douglas. I very much like your setting and design of the woman we see through you. I will be forwarding your interview to a number of my associates and friends who will be both professionally and personally interested. Thank you for your work. Noel Webb
