Baseball: The Williams College baseball team scored eight runs in the first two innings of a 15-5 victory over Bowdoin in the opening round of the NESCAC Tournament on Friday afternoon. The Ephs advance in the winner’s bracket to play Tufts on Saturday morning at Tufts University’s Huskins Field beginning at 10:30 am. The Jumbos defeated Wesleyan University in Friday afternoon’s other first-round game, 5-4. Bowdoin and Wesleyan will play an elimination game at Bentley on Saturday at 10:30 am.
Crew: All three of Bowdoin’s entries at Philadelphia’s Dad Vail Regatta advanced to Saturday’s semifinals. The Novice Men race with Georgia Tech, Penn State, and Lasalle for a spot in the finals Saturday afternoon. The Varsity Men square off in a semi-final that includes Pitt, Grand Valley State, and Iona (the latter coached by former Bowdoin rower Tom Scifres ’03). The Varsity Women line up with Rutgers, Grand Valley, and rival Amherst (coached by former Bowdoin rower and by Assistant Coach Dave Thomas ’00).
Men’s Tennis: The fifth-seeded Trinity College men’s tennis team avenged an early-season loss to Bowdoin, taking a 5-2 win over the Polar Bears on day one of the 2010 NESCAC Tennis Championships at Amherst College.
Softball: Kara Nilan threw a complete-game six-hitter while Clare Ronan and Gen Barlow homered to lead Bowdoin past host Williams, 8-1, in the first game of the 2010 NESCAC Tournament on Friday afternoon. Bowdoin (31-10) will face the winner of Friday’s second contest between Tufts and Wesleyan Saturday at noon in the winner’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
Women’s Tennis: The fifth-seeded Bowdoin College women’s tennis team lost a pair of tightly-contested doubles matches and couldn’t recover in singles play, falling to fourth-seeded Middlebury on Friday, 5-0, in the opening round of the NESCAC Tournament.
